Objective
The objective of the Tourism Corporation was to establish a Hotel Management Institute promoting academic excellence to generate skilled manpower as per industry demand.
Challenges
- Location as a Concern: The Tourism Corporation came up with an initiative to establish a State run Hotel Management Institute in Gujarat but was in dilemma due to the location being extreme belt of north Gujarat.
- Obtaining Statutory Approvals: To obtain statutory approvals to start a Bachelor Program in Hotel Management recognized by AICTE or Govt. of India.
- Developing Job Ready Programs: To develop stronger linkage with Govt. and Hotel Industry to develop job ready programs.
- Designing Admission & Scholarship Plans: Support the institute’s admission with a broad objective of diversity and scholarship considering the location of the institution.
- Branding & Communications: Building a strong image of the hotel industry and making the youth aware that the Hospitality and Tourism Industry is one of the sector where an individual can build a respective career.
Solutions
1. Feasibility Study & Location Appraisal
Eduprogress provided consulting to the Tourism Corporation for developing the Institutional Building Framework of the Institute planned for Hotel Management Courses. We proposed conducting a Feasibility Study, which helped give a firm overview of the sector. After analyzing many factors from the feasibility study, we came up with a feasibility study report that provided the possibility of running the institute in the determined location in north Gujarat. Our research presented that the location in north Gujarat is surrounded by many tourist attractions and is projected to be a tourism hub shortly.
Accordingly, it led us to prepare the Institution Building Framework in the following steps: an Academic Plan, Skill Development and Training Program, Industry Short-Term Course Modules, Manpower, International Alliance, and Academicians and Industry Partners for building academic excellence for the Institute.
2. Course & Curriculum Design
We supported this Institute by proposing a demand-driven degree program. It is a 4-year degree program highlighting hospitality operations with critical areas in food and beverage services, food production operations, housekeeping utility services, front of operations, travel and tourism management, rooms division management, and kitchen operations management. BHMCT also focuses on other management areas, such as Fundamentals of Management, Marketing Introduction, Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, and Managerial Accounting.
3. Marketing Plan for Promotions & Outreach
Eduprogress also built up a marketing plan along with a promotion plan and strategy for the New Institute, in order to get the best talent to the campus from across the nation. As the major challenge in this context lies entirely on the location of the institution, we organized the campaigns in the rural and urban areas with an aim to spread awareness among youth and parents about future opportunities in the hospitality & tourism sector along with the excellence and benefits of BHMCT program.
4. 10 Years Plan
Eduprogress built a 10 years plan for expansion of academic offering including Diploma, Certificate and Master Program, and optimizing the use of Infrastructure.
Result
This Institute was established in 2016, and since then, it has successfully offered the flagship course of Bachelor of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (BHMCT). The Institute also partnered with renowned industry players such as Grand Hyatt, Crowne Plaza, Novotel Hotels, Taj Hotels, The Grand Bhagwati, and many more, providing opportunities to the Institute’s students to pursue their industry-internship program. This further helped the Institute achieve its primary objective of generating a skilled workforce per industry demand.
